It would be easy to label David Best as an emancipator. His beautiful Temple of Forgiveness, which is on display for the last time at Burning Man, offers visitors a place to leave past memories behind. Participants are invited to leave a token of a burdensome memory behind. At the end of the festival the Temple is burned to ashes with the sentimental pieces provided by all who wish to participate. Find out why this Temple has had such a profound impact on its disciples and why this will be the last year David Best continues this tradition. Duration - 00:05:07 What a phenomenal spirit he has. ![]() Over The Rainbow by Rak Razam "I'm here with my friends Matty from Byron and Kaptain Khaos from Paris and a slew of aging dancers that have come out of retirement to celebrate the 10th anniversary Rainbow Serpent Festival, a four day celebration of "soul and technology", according to the organizers. Here in Australia the outdoor party scene has been flourishing for over a decade at bush 'doofs' (named after the bass beat of the electronic music), where 'doofers' revel in Trance music, community and enhanced states of mind. "Since the first gathering in 1998, Rainbow has become a popular annual get-together for thousands of like minded people," says Frank Venuto, one of the festival's founders. Rainbow Serpent is a landmark of the Global Trance music calendar, where semi-retired doofers like myself mix it up with the young turks of the dancefloor and the old hippies that can still shake it." Nice piece features the 4 day account in Australia with photos. link Labels: events, Festivals, psychedelia Stumble It!

![]() W A R/D A N C E Across the country, Ugandan children are getting ready for the biggest event of the year: the annual Kampala Music Festival. Fifty-six schools will compete, but only one will go home the champion. No one expects it to be Patongo ? schools in the middle of refugee camps don?t win awards. But when the music starts, expressions shift. After a lifetime of trauma, this year Patongo Primary School students have something magical to anticipate. For the first time, they have qualifed to compete in Kampala?s national festival. The capital city may as well be on another planet to these kids. Most have never left the camp, but they dream about Kampala?s towering buildings, plentiful soda and soldier-free streets. Unlike the wealthier schools from the south, Patongo?s students scrap for school uniforms and instruments. Despite the odds, the children endlessly practice their performances, filling the sweltering one room schoolhouse with dust. They are driven by heart, talent and, for some, the need to rebuild lives shattered by the L.R.A.. After months of practicing, it all builds to the big night in Kampala. If their bus can safely make it through rebel territory, they?ll take the stage and give it their all. Win or lose, these children will show what true heart can achieve. (via: World Vision) Documentaries have richly peppered the film landscape quite generously of late and War/Dance is one beautiful and tender documentary showing at Sundance this week. Neptunalia, the T.O.U.C.H. Samadhi Summer Festival is on July 23-25, 2004, and is held at Deerfields, the amazing local 800+ private acres playground. It's an experience in itself. It's billed as an Outdoor Camping and Psychedelic Trance experience. Take a look at the pictures of the grounds. Link
And the Neptunalia flyers are made from a Naoto Hattori design. Remember that outstanding artwork we've enjoyed before?
And then the following weekend is TransformUs, the South East Regional Burn. So, Psytrance or a Burn? I've never been to a Burn before, and PsyTrance is all around here, but not in this type of arena. What to do? We'll probably go to TransformUs. I am too old for two back to back, kick-out-the-jams weekends. Knowhatimean? ![]() Weirdpixie found another good music site with indie mp3's and other new releases called InSound. She and Charles both have a knack for finding good music online. My server was down a good part of yesterday. I can't complain too much about them as they're usually pretty good and rarely cause me any grief. Better find something else to bitch about.
